The oaky cousin
The name Cugino - the Italian name for cousin - is well chosen: Because the expertly crafted object made of oak wood is neither a stool nor a table, but precisely a close relative of both. And as such, the interestingly designed in-between can, of course, be both - its use as a stool or low table is entirely up to the owner. The challenge for designer Konstantin Grcic was to find a form that is open to interpretation and does not imply a function from the outset. It was important to Grcic to design a piece of furniture that looks both novel and familiar. And so the result of this search for form is a delightful interplay of substance and openness in which solid, wooden elements enclose an empty, cone-shaped space. ns
