Sour milk
The value of milk is lower than ever in the history of the dairy industry. It is subsidized, virtually squandered for little money, and taken for granted by consumers as a staple food from whose origins we have become alienated. Ekaterina Semenova studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven and in her final thesis dealt with the value of Dutch dairy products. Her work is an attempt to restore the reputation of dairy products to the level before its mega-industrialization.
She collected overturned products such as cream, curd and milk in the neighborhood and experimented with innovative uses. According to Russian tradition, milk is used in firing ceramics - Semenova adapted the practice of her homeland and used it as a ceramic glaze. Vessels dipped in milk or yogurt receive a waterproof coating in silky shades of brown. And with this kind of use, moreover, it does not matter whether the initial product is spoiled and no longer suitable for consumption. tp
